The Russian state broadcaster RT is no longer allowed to broadcast in the United Kingdom. As a result, British media regulator Ofcom has withdrawn its broadcasting license immediately.

According to Ofcom, RT, formerly Russia Today, is not “suitable” for a UK license. The regulator says it attaches great importance to freedom of expression and is not convinced that RT can be a “responsible broadcaster”.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, several countries have taken measures against media associated with the Russian state. The European Union blocked RT and Sputnik news agency at the beginning of this month.
