Pro-Russian television will be broadcast in the Ukrainian region of Kherson from Tuesday. After weeks of occupation, Russia has switched all television towers in that region to Russian television. The state channels are broadcast for free.

Kherson in southern Ukraine was one of the first regions to fall into Russian hands after the invasion of Ukraine.

A pro-Russian director of Kherson said on Tuesday that the region could be absorbed by Russia before the end of the year. Russia has already introduced the Russian ruble as a means of payment in the occupied territory. Residents can also become Russian citizens.

Kherson is located north of the Crimean peninsula and is of strategic importance to Russia as it is the only way to establish a land link with Crimea.
