The Ambassador Bridge, the busiest border crossing between Canada and the United States, has reopened. This is reported by the bridge operator, which was blocked for almost six days by truckers demonstrating against corona measures.
Police had already started clearing the bridge on Sunday morning. Several arrests were made as a result. Vehicles were also towed.
The blockade caused problems, especially for the car industry, because the supply of parts came to a standstill. About a quarter of all goods trade between Canada and the US takes place via the bridge. The judge already ruled that the blockade had to be lifted on Friday. But shortly after the set deadline, more demonstrators had arrived.
“The Ambassador Bridge is now fully open, allowing free trade between the Canadian and US economies,” the Detroit International Bridge Company said in a statement Monday morning.
