China is keeping the door “wide open” for negotiations with the United States on the import duties that the countries have imposed on each other, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Wednesday.
“China emphasized early on that there are no winners in tariff and trade wars,” ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said during a daily press conference. He reiterated that China is prepared to negotiate on the matter.
US President Donald Trump previously acknowledged that the US import duty of 145 percent on most products from China is “very high” and will drop “significantly” if the countries reach an agreement.
After Trump’s measure, China countered with a 125 percent tariff on American goods.
