After protests from the catering sector and consultation with the business community, the Surinamese government has decided to extend the curfew.

The measure will no longer apply from 9 p.m. on Friday but will only take effect at 11 p.m. After that, the curfew ends at 5 a.m. daily.

Last Sunday, Surinamese Minister of Health Amar Ramadhin found it necessary to bring the curfew to 9 p.m. He then said during a press conference that the main purpose of this was to stop the many parties.

According to the police, many catering establishments organize parties against all the rules, with the risk of many infections as a result.

The decision to start the curfew again at 11 p.m. was taken under the condition that the catering industry adheres closely to the rules. The sector and the government have agreed to work together on enforcement.
