Pope Francis on Friday called on world leaders who will meet at the COP26 climate conference to provide “urgent and efficient responses” to the ecological crisis.

The climate conference starts on Sunday in Glasgow.

“The policymakers meeting at COP26 in Glasgow urgently need to provide efficient responses to the current ecological crisis and give concrete hope to future generations,” the Pope said in a speech to British broadcaster BBC.

Francis warned of an unprecedented threat from climate change and the deterioration of “our common home”. The Pope will meet US President Joe Biden later Friday in the Vatican.
