Two American soldiers were found dead last week at an air force base in Germany, where they were stationed. The cause of their decease is still unknown.
The men, both 20 years old, were “found lifeless in the dormitory.” Attempts to resuscitate them were in vain, and doctors declared them dead twenty minutes after the bodies were discovered. The men were alone in dormitory. Neither of them had a roommate.
An investigation into their cause of death is underway, said the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of western Germany today in a statement.
Spangdahlem is the home of around four thousand soldiers. There are approximately twenty American bases in Germany.
“It is always difficult to lose important members of our team,” says Colonel David Epperson on the base website.
He expressed his sympathies to the families of the victims Xavier Leaphart and Aziess Whitehurst. Both soldiers served in the maintenance squad of the air force unit.
