The severe thunderstorms that hit eastern Canada on Saturday have killed at least eight people, according to a new official balance.
Earlier there had been four deaths. About 900,000 families were without power as a result of the storm.
Ontario Police Department told CTVNews that seven people died on Saturday from falling trees and branches. In addition, a canoeist also drowned in a river near the town of Gatineau in Quebec.
The rare weather phenomenon, called a derecho, was accompanied by high winds reaching peaks of more than 140 kilometres per hour, according to the Canadian Weather Service.
Ottawa was particularly hard hit, with thousands of families still sitting in the dark on Sunday night.
