US President Joe Biden’s claim Friday that he is convinced that Russia has decided to invade Ukraine is based on reliable information from United States intelligence services.
Various American media, such as CNN and The New York Times, reported this on Sunday evening.
Biden said Friday that he expected the Russians to carry out the raid “in the coming days or week”. US media reported Sunday that Biden’s administration has “solid information” that Russian President Vladimir Putin has indeed already ordered his troops on the border with Ukraine to carry out the invasion plans.
The intelligence, according to The New York Times, shows that “40 to 50 percent of the more than 150,000 Russian troops along the Ukrainian border have meanwhile moved into combat formation and can launch an attack within days.”
Part of the troops would consist of Russian reservists, who could be deployed as occupying forces after an invasion. According to the US media, the government sources on which they base their reporting have not provided further details about the intelligence. Still, they do emphasize that it is very reliable information.
