Israel has bought 2 billion dollars worth of war equipment for its air force from the United States.

The deal includes 12 Lockheed Martin Corp CH-53K helicopters and two Boeing Co KC-46 tanker planes, Israel’s Defense Ministry said.

Israel also has the option to buy an additional six helicopters. The first helicopter is to be delivered in 2026. The first Boeing will not arrive before 2025. However, Israel is trying to bring forward the delivery of the KC-46s.

Israeli media say the refuelling planes could be crucial for carrying out an airstrike against nuclear facilities in Iran.

According to the military, the Air Force’s current refuelling capacity is sufficient to carry out its missions without going into details.
