Since Monday, the man who had been holding a woman hostage in a shop in the 12th arrondissement of Paris has been arrested.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reported this. There were no injuries.

The hostage-taker, a 56-year-old man with a psychiatric history, entered a shop on Rue d’Aligre, near the Bastille, around 3:20 p.m. on Monday.

He took two women hostage there, but he had already let one of them go on Monday evening. A terrorist motive was soon ruled out.

The man was known to police for previously harassing a local doctor at her practice, a police source said.
