At least 38 people have been killed in Sudan’s East African gold mine collapse on Sunday, the Sudanese Mineral Resource Society reported.

The exact number of people buried under the rubble is unclear.

The accident took place in the city of Al-Nuhud, in the West Kordofan region. The export of gold is of great importance to the 44 million inhabitants country.

Many gold mines in the country do not meet safety standards. That’s why accidents keep happening.
