A US court on appeal has rejected ex-President Donald Trump’s demand not to release presidential documents about the January 6 storming of the Capitol. He challenged a decision by his successor Joe Biden in the District of Columbia Court.

“Based on the data that former President Trump has made available to us, we see no grounds for rejecting President Biden’s decision,” the three judges wrote in their verdict.

According to the judges, the documents are “relevant and necessary to the investigation into the attack on the legislature and its constitutional role in the peaceful transfer of the presidency”.

Earlier, a lower court approved Joe Biden’s decision to make those documents about events in the White House available to the House of Representatives Investigative Committee investigating the attack on the Capitol.

Trump wants to keep the documents secret, referring to the presidential privilege he enjoyed while in office. He can appeal to the Supreme Court.
