The number of new coronavirus infections detected in Germany over the past 24 hours has fallen further on Tuesday compared to the day before.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM, reported 6,408 new infections on Tuesday morning.

On Monday, the RKI also reported a relatively low number of newly diagnosed cases of 6,729. On Saturday and Sunday, there were still approximately 16,000 and 12,000 new infections, respectively. Including the last figure, the total in Germany comes to 2,148,077 infections detected.

In the past 24 hours, there were still relatively many deaths resulting from the lung virus. As many as 907 people died in Germany in the past 24 hours from the effects of Covid-19. This brings the total German death toll to 52,990.

A week ago, the German authorities decided to extend and further tighten the country’s hard lockdown, including a stricter obligation to mask the mouth. That decision was brought forward due to the danger of more contagious mutations.

It was announced on Friday that a mutation first discovered in Brazil has also been diagnosed in someone in Germany.
