The UK is holding back progress in discussions with the EU on the future relationship in several areas. EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier said Friday after a week of talks.

For example, no progress has been made in the field of fisheries.

“The EU will never reach an agreement without a balanced long-term solution on fisheries. That has to be crystal clear,” says Barnier.

Although he has worked well with his British counterpart David Frost, Barnier is alarmed. He calls the delay unacceptable. “We have to find solutions on all fronts.”

According to the Frenchman, Frost wants to have made tangible progress in June. Barnier called for a willingness to compromise.

Two more weeks of negotiations are planned, in May and June.
